Most abortion facilities charge for their pregnancy confirmation services and push for services that profit them. But at Clarity’s medical clinic, all of our services are free, regardless of insurance. Clarity provides a confidential place to confirm your pregnancy with a quick and comfortable ultrasound exam, even if you may be very early in your pregnancy. While ultrasounds typically determine what abortion procedure you may be able to receive (and its’ cost), our appointments also include an unhurried nurse consultation to go over all of your questions and options.
Do I need an ultrasound before an abortion?
Getting an ultrasound before an abortion is necessary to determine the gestational age of your pregnancy. This indicates what type of abortion you can have and verifies your pregnancy. An ultrasound can also determine if your body is preparing for a miscarriage or if your pregnancy is ectopic, requiring immediate medical attention.
What tests are done before an abortion?
You should have medical-grade pregnancy testing in a clinic like Clarity’s to verify a pregnancy
What happens during an abortion?
This depends on the type of abortion you recieve. If you get a chemical abortion (also known as the abortion pill), you will be taking two different medications. One pill stops the pregnancy, and the other pill essentially causes early labor, expelling the pregnancy from your body.
Surgical procedures vary pending gestational age. During a more common surgical abortion procedure, a doctor must insert a speculum to examine your uterus. Your cervix will be stretched open with dilators either before or during the procedure. Next, the doctor will insert a tube through the cervix into the uterus, which is attached to a suction device. This will empty the uterus.
