Local 4th Fun

Fun

We love Independence Day. It is a day to celebrate our country, liberties, and democracy (all while eating too many hot dogs + cool whip desserts). And we are not alone in our love for the 4th- all over Kentucky and in our hometown are activities, firework shows, and cookouts to attend. We’ve compiled some Kentucky 4th of July celebrations near and far. Get out there this weekend and paint the town red… and white….and blue! 🇺🇸

  • Louisville Waterfront Fourth– July 4th at 5pm
    • Along the Ohio River in Louisville, Waterfront Park is hosting their annual 4th of July Festival. This family-friendly affair begins at 5pm and includes nonstop music and entertainment, children’s activities and a patriotic installation of 15,000 American flags. The Zambelli fireworks display will be shot from a barge in the river at dark, lighting up the Louisville skyline.

More fun:

  • Rumble Over the Rough at Rough River Dam State Resort Park – July 1st, 8pm. (See more below)

Want to throw your own backyard bash? Better stock up on fireworks (and bomb pops, duh). Support local and buy your fireworks at the EHS Band Fireworks Booth! They are set up now at the Helmwood Medical Center (914 N. Dixie Ave) through July 4th and 10 pm.

Fun (2)

If you are willing to drive a little farther, there are even more Independence Day celebrations in our great state of Kentucky:

  • Lexington’s Fourth of July Festival – Tuesday, July 4th
    • The 4th of July is an exciting time in Lexington with several events, including a downtown street festival starting at 9am and a parade at 2pm. The fireworks show, shot from The Arboretum, can be viewed from the lots surrounding Kroger Field and begins at 10pm. This family-friendly event is the perfect way to spend the holiday in Lexington.
  • Independence Day Celebration at Paducah Riverfront – Tuesday, July 4th
    • The entire town of Paducah comes alive on the 4th of July, especially along the riverfront with their LIVE on the RIVER event. The event runs from 4pm – 10pm, and includes food vendors, music, children’s activities and plenty of family fun. This event is free and is capped off by amazing fireworks show over the river.
  • Thunder Over Eddy Bay – Saturday, July 1st
    • In Eddyville, at the Eddy Creek Marina Resort, a local favorite continues this year with Thunder Over Eddy Bay. The festival and bands begin at 5pm and there are also a number of vendors and inflatables for the kids. The fireworks display begins at 9pm and can be viewed by land, but is even better while aboard a boat, floating in the bay.
  • Rumble Over the Rough – Saturday, July 1st
    • Arguably the best fireworks display in the area, Rumble Over the Rough takes place at Rough River Dam State Resort Park and is a can’t miss event. Fireworks start at dusk, but arrive early and enjoy food and activities. This community-funded event is a local favorite and attracts viewers year after year.
  • Bowling Green’s Thunderfest – Saturday, July 1st
    • View a patriotic display of fireworks at one of Kentucky’s iconic locations – The National Corvette Museum. For 45 years, the Kiwanis Club of Bowling Green has entertained the community with this fabulous festival, stretched across the property of the museum. This year, the gates open at 4pm, the cost is $20 per carload and there will be a plethora of concessions, live music, children’s activities and a blast of a fireworks show at dark.
